Privacy policy
Your words, kept safe and kept yours.
Effective October 14, 2026 · Windows and Android
SOMOTE respects your privacy. You sign in with Google, or with your email address and a code, and you can back up your Playlists, phrases and settings to your account whenever you choose, so they come back on any device. Your photos, voice recordings and videos stay on your device. SOMOTE doesn't track how you use it, and it shows no ads. If you buy Plus, Google Play or Lemon Squeezy handles the purchase under its own privacy policy.
The short version
What we collect
Up to three things, all so your account works:
Other than your email address, we don't request any personal details, such as your name, age, date of birth or phone number. SOMOTE does not collect age information, so it has none to store or disclose. The backup never includes your license key, photos, voice recordings or videos. On Windows, SOMOTE's daily update check lets us count how many computers opened SOMOTE each day, as described below. Buying a subscription involves the store that takes the payment, which is covered further down.
Where your account is kept
Accounts and backups are kept with Supabase, the service we use for sign-in and storage, in its data center in Canada. They travel over encrypted connections and are encrypted where they are stored. Each account can reach only its own backup. Sign-in codes are sent by email through our email provider.
What stays on your device
Everything you create in SOMOTE is also kept in the app's own folder on your computer, or in the app's private storage on your phone. These stay on your device and are never uploaded:
You can also export your playlists to a text file that you keep. Uninstalling SOMOTE removes everything it stored on that device; your account and its backup stay until you delete your account. On Windows, photos you added from your own folders stay where they are, because SOMOTE only used them there. The portable Windows version has no uninstaller, so to remove its data, delete the SOMOTE folders in %APPDATA% and %LOCALAPPDATA%.
Your voice recordings
Recording your own voice is the only feature that uses your microphone. It does so only while you are recording, and only after you press record. If you never record, SOMOTE never uses your microphone.
Recordings are saved as ordinary audio files on your own device. They are never uploaded, never processed on a server and never used to train anything. Deleting a recording in the Voice tab deletes the file.
On Windows
Recordings are kept in local application data rather than your roaming profile. Managed and work computers often copy the roaming profile to a server when you log in, so keeping audio out of it means your recorded voice cannot be carried off your computer that way.
On Android
Recordings, photos and videos are excluded from Google cloud backup and from phone-to-phone transfer, so they stay on the device that made them. On a new phone, sign in to bring back your Playlists, phrases and settings, then record again.
What the overlay can see
The overlay only draws your words over the screen. It has no ability to read, capture or record what is beneath it. It does not capture the screen, log keystrokes or read other windows.
When SOMOTE uses the network
When you sign in, SOMOTE sends your email address, and then your code, to Supabase. If you sign in with Google instead, Google sends them your email address, name and profile picture. It sends a backup only when you tap Back up now in Settings. When you sign in, SOMOTE asks your account whether it has Plus, and links a license key you use to your account, so your other devices can unlock Plus too.
On Windows, SOMOTE sends your license key to Lemon Squeezy so your purchase can be confirmed. If you are offline, Plus keeps working for fourteen days from the last successful check.
Once a day while it is open, SOMOTE for Windows asks somote.app whether a newer version is available, and tells you when there is one. The request carries no license key, account, name or identifier, and nothing about your phrases, settings or what you do in SOMOTE. Our host counts these requests, which tells us how many computers used SOMOTE that day. The first time SOMOTE runs after a new install, it makes one similar request, which tells us how many people installed it. You can turn the daily check off in SOMOTE: click the button at the bottom right of the window (Manage, or See Plus on the free version) and choose Off under Check for updates daily.
If you drag a picture into SOMOTE for Windows from a web page, and your browser passes along only the picture's address, SOMOTE downloads the picture from the site it came from, the same way your browser would.
On Android, Google Play handles a subscription you start in the app. If you enter a license key from somote.app, or tap Restore for a pack you already bought, SOMOTE sends that key to Lemon Squeezy so your purchase can be confirmed.
SOMOTE may also download a short public list of withdrawn license keys once a day, and that download sends nothing about you. SOMOTE doesn't track how you use it, and it shows no ads. Downloading the app or a content pack from somote.app is an ordinary web request to our host, like visiting any page.
Purchases
Payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy on the web and by Google Play on Android. They collect what they need to sell you a subscription and to email you your license key, under their own policies: Lemon Squeezy's privacy policy and Google's privacy policy. SOMOTE never sees or stores your card or billing details.
This website
somote.app sets no cookies for tracking or advertising and loads no analytics scripts. One item is saved in your browser's local storage: whether you last read the site in light or dark mode.
Two third parties are involved in serving the pages. Typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, and the buy buttons take you to the Lemon Squeezy checkout for SOMOTE Plus. Both see the request your browser makes to them. Our host keeps ordinary server logs, including the page requested, the time and the requesting address, for security and reliability, and uses them to count how many times each page is visited.
Young users
We care about protecting the privacy of young users. SOMOTE is made for a general audience and does not ask for anyone's age. The only personal information it collects is an email address, used to sign in, to keep an account working and, if Plus was bought on our website, to unlock it. We do not use it to market to, track or profile anyone, and we never sell it or share it with third parties, apart from the sign-in and email services described above, which handle it only on our behalf.
Parents and guardians may review the information connected to their child's account, ask us to delete it, or ask us to stop collecting it by writing to hello@somote.app.
Deleting your account, and your rights
You can delete your account in SOMOTE: on Windows, open See Plus (or Manage) and choose Delete my account; on Android, open Settings and choose Delete my account under Account. You can also write to hello@somote.app from the address you sign in with. Your account, its backup and any purchase record are deleted 30 days later. If you sign in again before then, you can keep your account. Deleting your account doesn't cancel a subscription; manage that through Lemon Squeezy or Google Play. More on the account deletion page.
Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of what your account holds, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, at hello@somote.app. Records of your purchase are held by the store that processed it, and requests about those should go to that store.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update it here and revise the effective date above. Material changes will also be reflected in the app store listing.
